Selwyn College MCR

Facilities

Middle Combination Room

The MCR has its own space where graduate students can relax, socialise, and organise informal gatherings. The MCR is situated in the newly refurbished Cripps Court and consists of two separate rooms: the main MCR room and the games room. Further information can be found on the combination room page.

Chapel

The Chapel in Old Court is open almost every day of the year from very early to late hours. It can be used as a place for personal prayer or quiet reflection. Public worship is conducted regularly, with the major choral services on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings and the College Eucharist on Sunday mornings. Services of morning and evening prayer and Eucharist are advertised on the notice board near the Porters’ Lodge. Everyone is welcome to join.

Detailed information about activities at the Chapel and the College Choir can be found here.

Library

The Library is intended for all members of Selwyn College as a comfortable place to work. Visitors are also welcome to consult our books but are requested to contact us in advance by phone or email. The Graduate library guide can be found here.

The library database search facility can be accessed here.

College Bar

The Bar is located in Old Court next to 'A' staircase. Being refurbished in 2019, it is a modern stylish bar which doubles as a cafe during the day and a bar during the evening. The bar serves a variety of beers, ales, lagers, and spirits, soft drinks and a small range of hot food such as paninis. It is open from 12.00 noon to 11.00 pm every day.

Sports Ground and Gym

The sports ground is owned by Selwyn College and shares its facilities with the students of King's College. The ground is situated at Fulbrooke Road. Full information can be found here. Details of MCR sporting activities can be found in the "Clubs and Societies" page on this site.

Selwyn also has a gym equipped with an assortment of cardio machines and weights. It is located on the West side of Cripps Court, next to the bike racks. New users must attend an induction session from a qualified instructor before using the gym. More details can be found here.

Music Rooms

The College offers two music practice rooms. One is situated in Old Court above the Hall and the other in the newly renovated Cripps Court building. Music rooms are equipped with upright pianos and offer enough space for group practice sessions.

The rooms need to be booked in advance via the online booking system and keys can obtained from the Porters’ Lodge. The rooms shall not be used before 9 AM or after 10.30 PM.

The College has its own Music Society. Full information can be found here.

College Gardens

The College is proud of its magnificent gardens where students are welcome to relax or contemplate. The garden’s history and gallery (with pictures during each season) can be found here.

BBQ Garden

BBQ facilities are available to the MCR in the MCR garden behind the hostel at 31 Grange Road. Individuals who wish to use the BBQ must ensure that they are trained by contacting catering. Each year the MCR Committee organises several BBQ parties for all to attend.

Cycle Registration

The College offers a cycle registration scheme to improve students’ safety. Submit the online form and bring your bike to the Porters’ Lodge to finalise the registration process.
